Philly Newspaper Subscribers to Get Discounted Android Tablets

According to AdWeek, Philadelphia residents will soon find themselves able to participate in a first-of-its-kind pilot program.  Subscribers to the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News are expected to be able to purchase Android tablets at a discounted price.  These tablets will have content pre-loaded with icons, apps, and shortcuts to digital versions of the newspapers.  The current price for a digital subscription is $2.99 per week although the tablet deal may see a different option offered to subscribers.

The pilot program is expected to begin in late August with around 2,000 tablets available.  A full-scale rollout is expected for later in the year. It is not yet known which brand or size of tablet will be made offered to subscribers however we don't see Galaxy Tab 10.1's on the horizon.

Thanks to Brad at liliputing for the heads up!

I think it is a great idea to subsidize Android tablets for papers. I hope it works out and other papers do the same.Android device security is important
